Tokyo Ghoul is one of the popular anime especially season one with great fighting scenes and amazing character designs. We can’t say the same for season two as it got terrible reviews in my anime list. However, the series is interesting in general and captivating.

Kichijoji
The first real-life location of Tokyo Ghoul is Kichijoji. It features at the beginning of the series when Ken and Hideyoshi meet Nishio and fight. The spot is easily recognizable because it looks exactly like in the anime.
So if your brain still contains fresh scenes from the start of the series you will surely recognize this spot. To get access to this location take the JR Chuo Line to Kichijoji Station.
Shibuya Crossing
Many authors have used this area as a reference in their series. Shibuya Crossing features in popular anime like Haikyu!!, Sword Art Online, Weathering with You or Death Note. It equally features Tokyo Ghoul where you can see Kaneki Ken walking on the crossing at night.
If you want to get the same experience as in the anime, then visiting the crossing at night while taking the same path as Kaneki will do the job.
To access this real-life location of Tokyo Ghoul, you can take the JR Yamanote Line to Shibuya Station

Shinjuku
Just like Shibuya Crossing, Shinjuku features great anime like The Garden of Words. Many districts appear in Tokyo Ghoul. There is a scene where Kaneki is in the 4th district and when you take a deep look, you will notice that it corresponds to Shinjuku in real life.
The image below features a popular street in the area called Kabukichou known for its clubs. To reach Shinjuku, take the JR Chuo Line to Shinjuku Station.
Milky Way Cafe, Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro features as one of the real-life locations of Tokyo Ghoul like Durarara!!. The Milky Way Cafe which is a popular location appears at the very beginning of the anime. It’s where Kaneki and Rize had their date before everything turned upside down for poor Ken 😣. The cafe is galaxy-themed and famous for its drinks and desserts. You can access the Milky Way Cafe by taking the JR Yamanote Line to Ikebukuro Station

Tree Lighting(Minato, the 3rd ward)
The 3rd ward reflects Minato in real life. In the series, you can Ken and Rize walking down the street on their first date during the Christmas period. However poor Ken did not know he could end up as a 🍣 to Rize.
Chiyoda Ward
The next real-life location of Tokyo Ghoul is Chiyoda(1st ward). It is the most important ward and home to the CCG Main Office, CCG Laboratory Division and The Chateau. In real life, it houses the Imperial Palace and several government offices.

Nerima Ward
Nerima corresponds to the location of the Anteiku cafe in Tokyo Ghoul. In the series, the cafe serves as a cover organization for the ghouls. This cafe is modelled after a café in Toshima called Museum Cafe & Diner. However the cafe is close and it’s just a three-minute walk to the next real-life location of Tokyo Ghoul, Rikkyo University

Anime vs. Real Life: Tada-kun Never Falls in Love
Kamaii University
Rikkyo University which is a model for the Kamaii University in Tokyo Ghoul is where the main protagonist and many other central characters in the series are studied. Ken studied Japanese literature while his best friend Hideyoshi Nagachika studied Foreign Language Studies and majored in English at the Department of International Studies.
Rikkyo University is a European-looking school established in 1874 in Japan.

Sumida ward
Sumida corresponds to the Ghoul restaurant located in the 7th ward. In real life, it corresponds to the Ryogoku sumo hall where suma wrestling and other Japanese cultural contests take place.

Oota ward
Oota ward is one of the wards with the largest population that’s why it’s infested with ghouls. Thanks to the universe in real life, there is no ghoul so you are free to visit the ward fearlessly.

12th Ward is based in Setagaya and houses the Corniculum – a ghoul detention centre. In real life, it’s a lucky cat temple

Conclusion
I have captured 11 Tokyo locations that feature in the Tokyo Ghoul. The series left a great impression on many of us though I think the three other seasons did not have a great impact on me as the first season did. What do you think about it and what was your general impression of the series?
