The Castlevania series, based on the fantasy video game with the same title, features a load of complex personalities, magnificently realized. Some include vampires, magicians and monster slayers; the Netflix animated series introduced and expanded on a large cast of powerful characters. Many of them deserve recognition but just 12 of them will figure in my favorite Castlevania characters list.

- Sypha Belnades
- Vlad ‘Dracula’ Ţepeş
- Lenore
- Carmilla
- Hector
- Isaac
- Saint Germain

Adrian ‘Alucard’ Ţepeş
Alucard is the half-breed son of Dracula and Lisa in the Netflix’s Castlevania series. He possesses all the regular strengths of a vampire and is a skilled swordsman with outstanding intelligence.
Alucard possesses various inhuman feats such as superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, flexibility, agility, mobility, jumping, durability, endurance, senses etc.
He showed his strength shortly after his introduction, overpowering both Sypha and Trevor, nearly even killing the latter. He was ultimately responsible for the death of Dracula, dealing fatal damage to his father.
Trevor Belmont
He is a monster hunter and the last descendant of the Belmont family, who were wrongfully exiled and excommunicated. He is the main character of the show, is extremely strong and can fight against superhuman creatures without possessing any supernatural powers of his own.
Furthermore, Trevor shows immense combat prowess and is stronger when armed with weapons. Trevor is extremely accurate with his whip and he totally displayed it in his sword duel with Alucard; Alucard being a master swordsman.
In spite of his often bad-tempered and defeatist traits, Trevor Belmont is widely regarded as one of the favorite Castlevania characters.
Sypha Belnades
In Castlevania, Sypha is a sorceress with control over the elements and also shows an impressive amount of power throughout the series, hence ranking her among my favorite Castlevania characters. She is highly intelligent but she also possesses extremely strong magic.
She can generate vast amounts of force with any fire, ice, wind, or electricity, making her one of the strongest and best female anime characters. Sypha allies herself with Trevor Belmont and Alucard to prevent Count Dracula from carrying out his revenge against humanity.

Dracula
Vlad Țepeș is the most powerful vampire in the world of Castlevania. He owns many of the usual vampire features: fangs, claws, pale skin and he drinks blood. He also owns a massive castle and commands multiple mighty generals.
An interesting ability he has is his immunity to normal vampire weaknesses; Silver and garlic seem to have no effect on him and he used to travel on foot through the world for many years with no problem dealing with sunlight.
Another of Dracula’s important abilities is that he does not depend on blood as much as many other vampires. After his wife passed away, he sat in his library without drinking any blood for months and yet it did not weaken him that much.
Vlad is one of my favorite Castlevania characters thanks to his charisma, power and machiavellian side but with a hint of humanism, he possesses.
Carmilla
Here comes the second main antagonist and by far the best villain in the series. She is the vampiress Queen of Styria, as well as the leader of the Council of Sisters, including Morana, Striga and Lenore. She formally led Lord Dracula’s army by controlling vampires for him and raising them as the world’s new dominant species.
Carmilla was the only truly competent villain in the series who actually planned her every move carefully, which made her truly formidable and one of the favorite Castlevania characters.
As a vampire, she is immortal and cannot die of old age, keeping her youthful despite having lived for hundreds of years. She possesses far more strength than normal humans and other vampires.
She displayed her strength when she kicked Godbrand with enough speed and force to knock him down a staircase and then stick him to the ground with her foot.
Lenore
Coming in at number six of our favorite Castlevania characters of all time is the beautiful Lenore! She is one of the four Queens of Styria and a member of the Council of Sisters, where she plays the diplomat’s role.
She uses her charms to draw out what is wanted by her and her sisters. In the series, she uses her charm to convince Hector to help the Council build an army of night creatures.
Being a vampire, Lenore has several supernatural abilities like immortality, super strength and speed. She is skilled in hand-to-hand combat techniques which she uses during encounters in conjunction with her other abilities.
Hector
He is a Forgemaster who uses a hammer to resurrect humans and animals and to call demons from Hell into the resurrected corpses. His resulting creations become newly living monsters who can be enlisted in Dracula’s army, loyal to his orders. He appears as one of Dracula’s two human generals in his army.
Despite being kept around to supply the vampires with night creatures, he tries his best to counsel Dracula for him to abandon his revenge, before he easily gets manipulated by Carmilla and later Lenore.
Hector is a gentle soul who at first used his natural gift at forge mastery because he was sad that animals had died. He felt so sad that he revived them using his abilities and even giving them names.

Isaac
A fantastic forge master serving as the other Dracula’s two human generals in his army, he later cemented his spot as one of the main and favorite Castlevania characters. He has unconditional loyalty and love toward Dracula and in return, Dracula is the only person who respects him and appreciates his service.
Isaac can manipulate the flow of magic, bring creatures back to life from the dead and has the power to create night creatures from corpses that he would command.
In addition to his abilities, he has superb fighting skills, being able to kill a band of bandits effortlessly with his dual weapons. Isaac was also capable of fighting an enraged Carmilla without much difficulty. Cold and ruthless, Isaac kills without mercy but at the end of the series, he finds peace and is totally done with fighting and revenge.
Saint Germain
Saint Germain is actually based on a real historical figure, Count Saint Germain, a European adventurer who achieved prominence in European high society due to his interest and achievements in science, alchemy, philosophy, and arts.
Just like his figure, he is a wizard specializing in alchemy. He possesses knowledge many would consider heretical and prefers not to share it as few would understand or accept it.
His greatest motivation is reuniting with the love of his life, whom he lost in the Infinite Corridor. It is for this reason that he had come to Lindenfeld. He also had some abilities which rank him amongst the favorite Castlevania characters; Knowing multiple languages, Saint Germain was able to teach educated priests about the details of their own books and the obscure meanings of the different alchemical symbols. He is also talented in negotiations, as shown by recruiting Trevor and Sypha to his cause.

Lisa Tepes
She isn’t too much implicated in the series, yet, she remains one of our favorite Castlevania characters and a key element in the anime’s plot. She is Dracula’s second wife and Alucard’s mother. Lisa had to meet the Count and her kindness greatly impacted him; He saw in her the image of his previous wife, Elisabetha.
He eventually fell in love with her and Lisa became involved in a relationship with him. Lisa tries to learn as much as possible to become a healer.
She took what she learned from Dracula, mainly in the areas of anatomy and chemistry, and became a great doctor ahead of her time.
She was later arrested by the Bishop of Targoviste for a witchcraft affair. The Bishop mistook her medical supplies and implements in her home for witchcraft. Her home burst into flames as she was dragged to the square in Targoviste, where the Bishop scheduled to burn her alive. Her death sparked Dracula’s vengeance and the resulting war between mankind and monsters.
The Judge
He is a major character in the animated series, Castlevania and the leader of the town of Lindenfeld. Originally known to be a kind figure but was revealed to be a cold-blooded child murderer. He would often send children into the woods, driving them to die in a pitfall he initially molded and would even take his victim’s shoes home as trophies.
The Judge showed suspiciously redeeming signs in his final moments. He implored Sypha and Trevor to burn down his house, in which he gathered the evidence of his murders. It could be seen that he felt guilty for his actions.
However, it might also mean that he was simply trying to mask the evidence so that no other people would ever know anything of his darkest secrets (Sypha and Trevor only found out because they inspected his house before burning it).
What prevents him from being a purely evil character is his high regard for Belmonts and even learns some of their methods of dealing with demons. While he tricked Sala into his death, he didn’t do the same thing to Trevor or Sypha, meaning he did have some honor.
Sumi
Ending off our list of favorite Castlevania characters is Sumi, the vampire huntress. In the anime, she takes advantage of Alucard’s loneliness in order to receive training in vampire slaying.
Sumi was an expert assassin and studied her target’s weaknesses before planning her move. She was a skilled swordswoman too and I can say it was her preferred weapon as she mostly used it to kill vampires.

There are many aspects of Netflix’s Castlevania series that are exceptional and they all come together to make a magnificent experience for viewers. If you have loved Castlevania, you will probably like other anime about vampires and monsters.
