3. How many Anime Adaptations Are there?
Hunter X Hunter indeed has more than one adaptation. It has a 1999 anime release by Nippon Animation and a 2011 anime release by MadHouse. Both of these releases are available in sub and dub. The 2011 release, however, has a lot more episodes/content in comparison to the 1999 release.
4. Between Hunter x Hunter 1999 Release and the 2011 Release, Which Should I Watch?
Among questions about Hunter x Hunter, this one comes up quite a lot. As a popular recommendation, you should go for the 2011 release. This is mainly because this version is more faithful to the manga, and has more content.
The 1999 version was released when the manga was much further behind, resulting in less content for episodes. Once you have watched the 2011 release till the end, it is also a good idea to look at the 1999 release.
Its art direction and other things are very different as it was handled by a different animation studio. It thus makes for an interesting take.

5. How many Seasons does Hunter x Hunter have?
Hunter x Hunter is best split into arcs, but conventionally they do have seasons. The 1999 release has 1 season split into the Hunter Exam arc, Heavens Arena arc and Phantom Troupe Arc. The 2011 release has 6 seasons, as listed by Wikipedia.
These are: The Hunter Exam Arc, Heavens Arena Arc, Phantom Troupe Arc, Greed Island Arc, Chimera Ant Arc and the Election Arc. Among other questions about Hunter x Hunter, it’s a fair one that isn’t addressed all that often.
6. Does Hunter x Hunter have Spin-Offs/ OVAs?
The Hunter x Hunter series has relatively few spin-offs and OVAs. The manga has a spin-off Volume 0, called Kurapika’s Memories. The chapters were released outside the main chapters’ sequence, and focus on Kurapika’s past.
The 1999 anime release boasts three OVA series. With the help of these 3 series, the 1999 anime release makes it up to the end of the Greed Island Arc.
7. Does Hunter x Hunter have Movies? Should I Watch them?
The 2011 anime release of Hunter x Hunter blesses its fans with Two movies. Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge as a sequel to Kurapika’s Memories, and Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission. None of these films are canon to the anime and are also a bit confusing, so feel free to skip them if you want.
For fanatics, that’s not a question about Hunter x Hunter you need to ask! They’d watch anything!

8. Where do the Hunter x Hunter Anime Series end in relation to each other and the Manga?
Also common among questions about Hunter x Hunter is one about continuity. The 1999 anime release’s episode 64 (end) is right around episode 53 of the 2011 release. With the help of the 1999 series’ OVAs however, it makes it up to 2011’s episode 75.
This is all the way to the end of the Greed Island Arc. The 2011 Hunter x Hunter release ends on episode 148 after Gon meets his father, Ging, atop the World Tree. That covers all the way till the end of the Election Arc.
There is still extra content after the 2011 release’s end, so for those willing to continue, read the manga from chapter 339. It currently has 400 chapters available.
9. Did the Hunter x Hunter anime skip out on details from the manga?
The most important things to take note of are:
- In chapter 1 of the manga, Kite and Gon’s relationship is better displayed compared to the 2011 flashback in the Chimera Ant arc.
- A large part of chapter 102 was skipped in both anime. This segment details the Phantom Troupe’s homeland, Meteor City. The information showcased here blends in nicely with the next point.
- Hunter x Hunter has a Volume 0, called Kurapika’s memories. The events here happen before the main events of the series. These chapters expatiate on Kurapika’s childhood and the massacre of the Kurta clan. These were never adapted into an animated medium.

10. Is Hunter x Hunter over?
The Hunter x Hunter series is in fact, not over yet, by a long shot. The manga has quite a number of chapters which have not been adapted into any animated medium. Again, the story in the manga remains unconcluded, mostly due to the ailment of Togashi.
Following this predicament, he has put the manga on an indefinite hiatus. He returned from hiatus most recently in 2022 but stopped yet again. The more people find out about the show, the more people ask this question about Hunter x Hunter. Some out of curiosity, others to mock the fans.
11. When will Hunter x Hunter continue?
A question about Hunter x Hunter which is always on fans’ tongues is about the resumption of the series. The series’ author, Yoshihiro Togashi, has put the manga on indefinite hiatus.
As for the anime, no announcement has been made for the adaptation of the available material. This means Hunter x Hunter fans will be stuck in limbo for a bit more, but hopefully not forever.
12. Does Hunter x Hunter have Games?
Western fans asking about games is a fair question about Hunter x Hunter. The franchise does indeed have a number of games, on a large number of consoles. Sadly, they were never released outside of Japan.
The characters of the series have appeared in other games though, such as the 2 Jump Stars games for the Nintendo DS. They also starred in J-Stars Victory VS for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, and Jump Force for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

13. Can a 13-year-old watch Hunter x Hunter?
As an adult or elder wanting to watch the show with younger ones, it’s an important question about Hunter x Hunter. The general consensus is yes, Hunter x Hunter is okay for 13-year-olds to watch. Sure it has blood and violence, as well as some nudity here and there (Hisoka’s bottom while bathing).
However, it’s nothing a 13-year-old can’t handle. The downside is that while it will make for some good entertainment, such young minds may not fully grasp the full impact of the show. This is the case with many anime, but also makes it very rewatchable!
14. I have finished the Hunter x Hunter anime. What next?
It is highly recommended, but not a must, that you read the remaining chapters. They are available on a number of sites, given how popular it is. You may watch all the OVAs and films, and read the spin-off. We don’t know when (or if) Togashi will ever be able to finish our beloved story, so it’s worth filling your waiting time.
15. I have finished EVERYTHING related to Hunter x Hunter. What can I do now?
You can always watch other anime. Depending on your opinion of Hunter x Hunter, certain anime may be a good fit for you. The first is Yu Yu Hakusho, also by Togashi. Others are Attack on Titan, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Mob Psycho 100 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. There are always lists of popular anime you can check out.
Hunter x Hunter is such a renowned anime; a one in a hundred. Nonetheless, with the sheer amount of anime out there, there are bound to be more to like. My Hero Academia may be a good place to start.
