Tokyo-3 – The setting for the entire anime, Tokyo-3, was a fictional city that was heavily based on the real Tokyo. This includes the geography, the skyline, the infrastructure, and the general look and feel of the city. The city of Hakone represents Tokyo-3 in the anime.

Geofront

In the anime, the Geofront serves as the headquarters for NERV, the organization tasked with defending the city against the Angels. The real-life inspiration for the Geofront is the massive underground caverns and tunnels that make up Tokyo’s extensive sewer system.

Hakone

This city located in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan was the inspiration for Tokyo-3’s countryside setting. The area’s hilly terrain and scenic beauty were a perfect match for the show’s depiction of the city’s outskirts.

Aside from Tokyo-3 you need to visit Lake Ashi, Owakudani, and Hakone-Yumoto Station. The station is especially home to amazing Evangelion shops in Japan. You will find T-shirts of all kinds and more.

There is equally the Hakone Junior High School which features the Tokyo-3 First Municipal Junior High School.

Shibuya
