My Best Anime: Hunter x Hunter Review

Few anime have the potential to be outstanding. Only a select few series truly shine in every respect, whether it be their intriguing stories, their top-notch animation, or the fact that they are completely terrible from beginning to end. Hunter x Hunter is one of those series with the best reviews.

The characters, plot, audio, animation, and voice acting have all been handled expertly. Hunter x Hunter is consistently excellent, blending complex plots together with action sequences that can compete with the finest in the genre. It is nothing less than a remarkable accomplishment. An accomplishment that, in my opinion, qualifies it as the best anime of all time.

Plot

Gon, Killua, Leorio, and Kurapika are a core group of likable characters that the show centers around. Gon, who has set out on a protracted and dangerous trip to become a hunter, is the subject of the first couple of episodes. He encounters Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua along the way, and they grow to be vital companions and play key roles in many of the subsequent tales.

There are seven narrative arcs, all of which are radically different from one another: a battle royale-style fight to the death; a rapidly developing colony of ants that threaten humanity; a horrifyingly evil crime organization that battles the mafia; a videogame setting where players must complete challenges and engage in combat with other players in order to collect cards; and two, more minor “training” arcs that serve as a means of switching between the major stories.

Storyline

Togashi has a singular, quirky, and captivating storytelling style. Through Hunter x Hunter, he shared his genius with the world. Hunter x Hunter features aspects of the seinen genre, which some fans believe makes it a seinen even if it is a shonen since Togashi made sure the tale was gripping and clear.

The story contains a considerable amount of humorous passages and lighthearted moments while maintaining its serious tone. The anime series has a sense of order and proper execution throughout. The anime’s director and writer deserve praise for their skillful and intelligent use of the original material.

Hunter x Hunter Characters Review

The well-written and complex characters that are a big part of Hunter x Hunter are some of its most amazing aspects. The characters almost completely complete the story. Gon, the series’ main character, perfectly satisfies the standards for a respectable protagonist in a shonen anime.

He possesses all the qualities of a shonen protagonist, including bravery, self-assurance, silliness, kindness, and power. Leorio, Kurapika, Killua, and Chairman Netero are some of the more promising characters, especially in terms of carrying Hunter x Hunter’s tale and maintaining equilibrium. When it comes to creating characters and growing them as the story progresses, Togashi paid/pays a lot of attention.

Good Antagonists

Hunter x Hunter and its story arcs are fantastic because of its extraordinary antagonists. They are the ones who completely make use of various storytelling devices and give the narrative a pleasing shape. The adversaries in Hunter x Hunter are particularly strong. Chrollo Lucifer, the leader of Phantom Troupe, serves as the film’s first true enemy. Chrollo is a fantastic opponent for a number of important reasons.

One of the series’ most potent characters, he possesses a deadly nen power called Skill Hunter. He is a great deal because of his personality features; he only speaks when it is required. Chrollo never needs to instill terror in his team members, unlike other villainous bosses.

On the other hand, Meruem is initially portrayed as a very strong antagonist who wants to wipe out the human race from the face of the Earth. He is the king of chimera ants. He proves to be more human than the people themselves as the plot progresses and his nature is revealed.

The best illustration of a carefully crafted gray figure is Meruem. His views on the human race, conflict with Chairman Netero, and relationship with Komugi serve as catalysts for the fantastic Chimera ant storyline.

Hunter x Hunter Arcs Review

Hunter x Hunter is also one of the fewest anime/manga with the best arcs. The Yorknew City arc represents the pinnacle of shonen animation. It includes every element needed for an excellent narrative experience. Outstanding characters include Gon and his buddies, the Phantom Troupe, and others.

When creating unneeded suspense and hype, the creators of the Shonen series would occasionally kill the story by deviating from the main storyline points. But with the Yorknew City arc, this is not the case. Even though the story arc is substantial, lasting roughly 22 episodes, it does not draw attention to itself because it is anything but dull.

The arc is fantastic because it centers on Kurapika, a minor character, and charts his path to redemption as he battles the Phantom Troupe.

The Chimera Ant arc is Togashi’s second-best contribution to the anime community. It occurs practically immediately after the Greed Island arc ends. There are so many elements of this arc that make it unique, such as the fact that it’s likely the only anime arc in which the protagonist never even sees the antagonist once throughout.

With this arc, Togashi merely chose to abolish the “hero saves the day” cliché. Meruem, the antagonist of this arc, has arguably one of the strongest character arcs in all of anime. Mereum’s character development was intricately crafted and engrossing by Togashi. He did not confine Mereum to the stereotypical shonen villain and looked at other facets of an enemy.

Hunter x Hunter Animation Review

Hunter x Hunter is fantastic not just because of the plot and characters, but also because of its superb animation and energetic soundtrack. In contrast to the 1999 version, the 2011 version of the series went all out to produce an anime that delivered on every level.

The recreation was endearing and intriguing, in contrast to the bland and lifeless original. Due to the superior animation and symphonic soundtrack that brought the characters and their stories to life, I believe the latter succeeded whereas the first one fell short.

Some of the latter action scenes are a sight to behold, and the visuals are clear and colorful. Even seemingly unimportant features like a character’s smile, standing, movement, or fighting style have been given significant thought.

A character may have a tendency to arch their back, have a relaxed posture, or have a swagger about them when they stand and walk. Similar to their work on several previous animes and movies, Madhouse has created a lavish and opulent masterwork that uses intricate and fluid animation to bring combat sequences to life.

The innocent and cheerful painting style is especially effective during the Ant Arc and Yorknew City since these gloomy tales contrast with the Hunter x Hunter characters’ vibrant and colorful appearances. Amazingly, during the more significant action scenes, the dependably excellent animation manages to improve even further.

Hunter x Hunter Opening/Ending/Soundtracks Review

The audio track is not a slouch either, increasing the impact of emotionally intense situations or providing the essential mood during quieter ones. Two of my favorites are Hisoka Theme and The World of Adventure. The former rises to dizzying heights, alternating between strings and winds to capture the thrill of setting out on an adventure.

It also gradually gets louder and more emphatic until it reaches a grand, concluding crescendo. The latter attempts flamenco and effectively conveys the chaotic, passionate, and unexpected nature of Hisoka through the combination of clapping and classical Spanish guitar.

However, there are several tracks that merit praise. The finest ones are typically melancholy tunes that may generate powerful feelings without sounding overly sentimental. The composer Yoshihisa Hirano skillfully employs a variety of instruments, including electric guitars, acoustic, string, wind, percussion, and drums, to create a humorous spectacle that perfectly complements the program.

Original Concept

Hunter x Hunter is a festival featuring lots of unique ideas and themes. The advantages of Hunter x Hunter are their complexity and originality. Though dense in terms of technicalities and understanding, ideas like Nen, Ten, Zetsu, Ken, Ryu, etc., give the audience the opportunity to challenge themselves to grasp them.

This procedure, in a sense, enables the viewer to psychologically commit to the series and virtually participate in it. Nen powers provide the show with intriguing subplots, while special skills like Knuckle’s A.P.R are utterly fascinating to see in action.

Togashi has declared on numerous occasions that he intends to complete the novel before passing away since he doesn’t want to let his fan base down. As far as the anime is concerned, there is no chance that Hunter x Hunter will make a comeback because there isn’t enough content for more seasons.

Madhouse is open to continuing the series, but they have not yet made any announcements. If they have enough material available in the future, they may animate more seasons of the anime. Hunter x Hunter is still one of the best anime series ever made, despite its exceptional quality.
