This clan is one of the ten clans which govern magicians in Japan. The two Shiba siblings enroll on the First high school, which separates and places students according to their magical abilities. Miyuki who is seen as one of the best is enrolled as a first-course student while Tatsuya is put in the second-course student group.

He is considered to have little or no magical skills but has great technical knowledge, combat skills and special magic techniques. These characteristics of his make people see him as irregular according to the school’s standard of ranking.
