The Ekom-Nkam Waterfall one of the beauty of Cameroon you should visit if you intend visiting the African content. These impressive falls in Ekom-Nkam are 80 meters high, charaterised with lush vegetation all around. The Sawa people believe the water has magical power. As they practice their traditional ceremonies in accordance to their ancestral believes. The water is muddy, brown in color and flows noisily along the cliff.
Geography
The Ekom-Nkam Waterfall is located in the littoral region (with Douala as the capital) precisely in the department of Mungo, in the Ekom-Nkam village. They called the people the “Bareko”.

Vegetation in the Ekom-Nkam Waterfall
Specimens such as Holarrhena floribunda and Tetrapleura tetraptera believe to exist near the Ekom-Nkam Waterfall. Holarrhena or “Holarrhène” or “Holarrhène du Sénégal” in French is a latex tree or shrub. It exist in different variety and commonly used in treating constipation, urinary infection, gonorrhea and many other infections. It’s equally use in the industrial, pastoral, agricultural and domestic field. Tetrapleura tetraptera also known as Aidon tree is used as a spice for several sauces such yellow sauce (Bamiléké, north west and south west people) or bongo’o ( Bassa) in Cameroon.
When should you visit the Ekom-Nkam Waterfall ?
The best period to admire the Ekom-Nkam Waterfall is during or just after the raining season but the way look very slippery and precautions should be taken while moving along. In addition the water level tend to rise up during this season and tourist are highly encourage to take strict precautions. As for the maintenance of the site, there are people in charge of that as well as the touristic guide.
